World Class Audio
Sydney Opera House's Recording Studio offers a unique and seamless blend of services between live concert sound reinforcement and a world-class recording and production facility.
Fibre network
The Recording Studio is located within the main shell of the complex and is easily connected to any location on the site through an advanced optical fibre – based MADI digital audio network. This audio network allows the Recording Studio to situate line and mic pre-amps as close as is possible to the source, resulting in a vast reduction of copper cables and subsequent signal degradation.
A Euphonix System 5 Digital Audio console features as the centre of the facility, offering a staggering collection of routing and processing capabilities.
Audio integration
In addition to the Recording Studio Console, three of the main performance venues also feature Euphonix consoles. By utilising the fibre audio network, audio is also able to be streamed and shared between consoles and venues. A Centralised House Video–Black and Word–Clock is available or each venue is able to run as its owner master/slave.
Platform? Your choice
Recording mediums span both Mac and PC platforms, and include a dedicated 48 track Hard-Disk based on Genex 9048. Pro tools HD3 with 48 I/O running on a Mac Dual G5. Logic Pro is available. Two dedicated Pc’s each run Merging Technologies Pyramix version 5.0, each with 56 I/O. All systems are sync’ed via Video, World-Clock and SMPTE to provide a combined total of over 200 tracks of recording power. Advisable operation is to run multiple systems as backup.
A vast array of microphones and a collection of outboard processing are available for use and is included in the studio hire charges.

The Recording Studio is run by a small team of highly professional and dedicated engineers who have years of experience within the recording and production industry. These skills combine with an intimate working knowledge of Sydney Opera House performance venues and live performance.
