Enjoy the performance

To have the best experience at Sydney Opera House, please take a moment to review the following information.

Our performances start promptly at the time listed on your ticket so please allow for sufficient time for travel, parking, dining, ticket collection, cloaking and other pre-performance activities in order to arrive at your performance space before the performance begins.

Tickets

A valid ticket is required to access the Concert Hall and the Opera Theatre foyers and all performance spaces. Please have your ticket with you at all times as you may be asked to present it for inspection.

In order to maintain a safe environment, everyone attending a performance must have a valid ticket, including 'babes in arms'. For certain children’s performances, a limited number of 'babes in arms' tickets will be available. Please call the Box Office for information.

Late seating

For the safety and comfort of the performers and other audience members latecomers will only be admitted into venues at a suitable break.  This varies from performance to performance and for some performances can be at the first interval.

Also, if you leave a performance once it has commenced, you will only be re-admitted at a suitable break.

We regret any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause latecomers and provide viewing from monitors in our theatre foyers.

Cloaking

The safety and security of our customers is of paramount importance to us.  All items larger than a standard A4 sheet of paper must be cloaked in our complimentary cloakroom before entering performance spaces.  We recommend that you do not bring larger items or items of significant value with you to Sydney Opera House.

Audio / video recording and photos

The Audio / Video recording and taking of photos (including camera phones) at performances is prohibited at Sydney Opera House.

Dress code

Unless specified, there is no formal dress code at Sydney Opera House, although shoes must be worn at all times. If an event does have a dress code, this information will be provided to you with your tickets or confirmation.

Mobile phones

We request that mobile phones are turned off prior to a performance.  If you must keep your phone turned on, please place it on silent or vibrate mode. Please also remember that light from your phone may be distracting to other audience members.

Smoking

The interior and covered Concourse areas of Sydney Opera House are no smoking areas.

Customers who wish to smoke may do so in outdoor areas.  Please ask a member of our staff if you require further clarification on smoking areas.

Food and beverages in performance spaces

As a general rule, we ask our ticket holders to enjoy their food and beverages outside of our performance spaces.
